COVID-19: Presbyteries, Congregations & New Worshiping Communities Respond to the Pandemic

The Presbyterian Church USA (PCUSA) conducted a survey during the month of May that queried 106 Mid Councils, 1,102 congregations, and 85 new worshiping communities. The study found that 60% of presbyteries have applied for Payment Protection Program (PPP) loans, and 90% of congregations had seen a decrease in giving. The survey also sought to understand how congregations were gathering, finding that 97% of PCUSA churches were meeting online. Approximately 60% of congregations reported struggling with technology, and the majority of smaller congregations had seen a decrease in attendence where as larger congregations had seen an increase in attendence.
